COSMETIC ACUPUNCTURE - A New Option To Plastic
Surgery And Injections
Cosmetic Acupuncture, a holistic and healthy alternative to plastic surgery, Botox®
Cosmetic injections, chemical peels, and other procedures is now an option to those who want to try to look younger. Denver-based
acupuncturist Martha Lucas, Ph.D., L.Ac., has launched a national educational campaign about the new treatment alternative.
Lucas, along with colleague Denise Ellinger, L.Ac., offer Cosmetic Acupuncture Seminars throughout the nation to train acupuncturists
about the new procedure. To date, they've held seminars in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, and Tampa, as well
as in Vancouver, B.C.
(Denver, CO - August 19, 2004) - Martha Lucas, Ph.D., L.Ac., a practitioner of Traditional
Chinese Medicine who specializes in Cosmetic Acupuncture, has launched an educational campaign about the new cosmetic acupuncture
techniques now available to consumers throughout the nation. According to Dr. Lucas, Cosmetic Acupuncture is a holistic and
healthy alternative to plastic surgery, Botox® Cosmetic injections, chemical peels, and other procedures that people are
using in their efforts to look younger.
"While some of the aforementioned procedures can be dangerous and
have serious side effects, none of them actually improve one's health. This fact makes Cosmetic Acupuncture the perfect alternative
- you look and feel younger because your health improves," Dr. Lucas explains. "As fine wrinkles disappear and deeper
ones can 'level' out, your basic facial 'personality' remains (except that you're happier and more vibrant). You retain the
character in your face since the structure of your face isn't changed with Cosmetic Acupuncture."
Acupuncturists
may tell you that they do "facial acupuncture" but Lucas advises consumers to check out the acupuncturist's specific
training in cosmetic or facial acupuncture as there are several protocols or systems out there. The procedure that Dr. Lucas
uses is called Mei Zen (translated as "beautiful person"). Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), of which Cosmetic Acupuncture is a part, is a complete
system of medicine that treats the patient as a whole and looks for the cause of symptoms or diseases in the overall context
of a person's life. TCM includes Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, QiGong Medical Massage, and nutritional advice along with some
other therapies. Dr. Lucas prefers to use the word traditional rather than alternative when she refers to the therapies she
uses because they are part of a tradition that is more than 5000 years old. "In that respect," she says, "modern
Western medicine is the alternative, not TCM or Acupuncture, since modern medicine has a much shorter history." Lucas
argues however that each system has its own particular genius and that TCM never attempts to invade the areas where western
medicine can provide a better solution than TCM.
A Clinical Instructor at the University of Colorado School of
Medicine, Lucas received her Ph.D. in Research Psychology from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, and her
degree in TCM from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver. Besides her direct training in TCM school,
she has advanced training in QiGong and pulse-taking diagnostics. Lucas works at The Colorado Center of Traditional Medicine
located in the Capitol Hill area of downtown Denver and she also makes house, nursing home, and hospital calls. She can be
